Photo of the Day - Friday 3 September 2010 Zak Henry 'This is one frame of a series of photos I took for a timelapse. I wanted to capture the moving sands, but partway through I noticed a waterspout form and track across the frame! It was just pure luck that I happened to choose this direction, a real case of right time right place. The setup was a D700 with 20mm lens, f/22, 0.8sec exposure, shots were taken at 5 second intervals at 15:43 on 28 August 2010. Photo of the Day - Sunday 29 August 2010 Michael Smith 'Hello James, I thought you might be interested in this photo taken a year ago at 16:00 on 27 June 2009 from the breakwater at Bayswater Marina on the Waitemata Harbour, looking west towards the mist-enveloped Auckland Harbour Bridge (with my Sony a200). Unusually, the mist was present for much of the day, only occasionally threatening to lift (as in this photo) before more rolled in from the east. Michael Smith.' Photo of the Day - Saturday 28 August 2010 Oleg Zubkov 'Hello James, attached is a picture of Mt. Fuji taken by my husband, Oleg Zubkov, on our recent holiday in Japan where we visited the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. We were told Hakone is the best place for seeing Mt. Fuji which is the highest mountain in Japan. Mt. Fuji is one of Japan's 'Three Holy Mountains' (along with Mt. Tate and Mt. Haku). The mountain is notoriously shy and is wreathed in clouds most of the time. Visibility usually is the worst in summer and the best in the winter. The weather in Tokyo on the 3 August 2010, on the day of the excursion, was hot with clear and sunny skies in the morning what was a welcoming change after three very hot cloudy days. After a brief stop at the Mt. Fuji Visitor Center the tour bus headed straight for the 5th station of the mountain. At first the top of the mountain could not be seen at all as it was hidden by fluffy white clouds. And suddenly, at around 14:00, the clouds broke to reveal the top of the Mt. Fuji allowing just enough time to take some snap-shots from the bus window. After 15 minutes or so the mountain got wrapped in clouds again not to be seen for the rest of the day. Our preference is for unmanipulated full resolution photographs. Please provide the full name of the photographer and as much detail about the photograph - location, time and prevailing weather. Most of the photographs that we publish are from New Zealand, however we are happy to consider interesting photographs of weather phenomena from any part of the world.
