Photo of the Day - Tuesday 16 February 2010 Spencer Matthews Spencer wrote 'taken from the Motuhie Channel at 20:35 on 15 January 2010 as we sailed out from Auckland Harbour towards Waiheke for the night. It was a steady 20 knot southerly but the weather was changing. The shot is facing east with the sun setting over Auckland City behind us. There was a series of small showers sweeping up from the south over Waiheke and the sunlight was reflecting back from them giving a most unusual effect - including the most magnificent rainbow that stretched from Waiheke (in the middle of a vineyard!) to the Noises Islands. Photo of the Day - Sunday 14 February 2010 Gregor Ronald 'Hello James, we had just returned from four days doing a slow drive and camping trip through Molesworth Station from Hanmer to Blenheim. The skies were as spectacular as the landscape, with huge cumulus boiling up each morning, then high cloud from the west appeared behind these on Tuesday 19 January 2010 as we drove through Molesworth Station. The next morning the front had backed off, but lenticular clouds appeared over Mount Tapuaenuku as we drove down the Awatere Valley to Blenheim. The photo was shot on a Fuji Finepix S2000HD on Program setting with 0.5 stop underexposure (the Fuji is notorious for overexposing on its auto setting), its facing SW mid afternoon 19 January 2010. Cirrus building above lower-level fine weather cumulus. The rain finally arrived in Blenheim about 17:00 on Thursday 21 January 2010. Love the site, I check it out every day or two. Cheers, Gregor.' We had just had a very intense thunder storm and this was the edge of the cloud as it passed us by. For about 5 minutes a small patch of mammatus cloud appeared. Our preference is for unmanipulated full resolution photographs. Please provide the full name of the photographer and as much detail about the photograph - location, time and prevailing weather. It is also useful to know camera and exposure details and the direction the camera was pointing. Most of the photographs that we publish are from New Zealand, however we are happy to consider interesting photographs of weather phenomena from any part of the world. We are often approached by book and magazine editors for permission to use photographs shown here. We do not divulge your contact details but are happy to pass on such requests to you as they arise.
